Friesen Bain

I’m not just saying this because I work with this good looking bunch but have you ever seen a group of accountants that were better looking!!! When I decided to go back and work as accountant again, I knew I would have a limited schedule for photos.  I still sneak in a few sessions (bribery with chocolate works best) but last week was so much fun for me as I got to photograph all my coworkers in my office.  So one never knows what you may see in my office at Friesen Bain, could be a desk with piles of tax folders one day OR a photo studio the next!  And for those of you wondering … I like to consider myself left brain right brain “balanced” hence the accounting and artistic all in one neat little package.

And a big thank you to Sheena for taking my pic!  And I vote Trina as the office super model (first pic below)!

Bev Tosh

I worked a little at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie for a little while and my favorite exhibit was one called War Brides by Bev Tosh.  She is an artist that lives in Calgary and if you ever get a chance to see her work, you should.  Not only is she a very talented artist, but she also has a story to tell with this exhibit and although I could go on for hours about it, I’ll just let you see some of my fav’s.

These are painted on planks of wood and if you could see the photos she painted them from, you would see how true to the image they are.  Who needs fancy canvas’ anyway!

Artist Melanie Jenner

I had the privilege of photographing artist Melanie Jenner’s artwork.  If you haven’t already been to the Centre for Creative Arts to see it, you better hurry up.  You can also contact Melanie at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie to see more of her beautiful art!  I am super excited to get my piece (I’m putting in my new office).

Hello at last!

I have been in so much trouble from everyone telling me I haven’t updated my blog in a while.  I keep saying it hasn’t been that long until I had a look today to see when I posted last  …  June 2011 well no wonder you were all giving me heck.  It has been an entire year, where does the time go.  Well I am going to do a power blog of some of my most recent shoots.  So sorry, but I just don’t have the time to go back and do them all.

As most of you know I am also a designated accountant and with the kids being in school all day, I am finding it harder to fill my evenings and weekends with photoshoots instead of spending time with my family.  That is not to say you can’t talk me into it, but my time is limited for photographing … It is for these reason’s I have decided to go back to my accounting roots (always said I had the best financial statements than any other photographer) and am now also working with the totally fun (yes accountants can be fun) at Friesen Bain Chartered Accountants.

Sunshine and smiles to you all … and I promise to post more often (at least more than once a year!)

Lori

PS. here are a few pics of what I have been upto when not with the family (a little mommy time in Tofino on a yoga retreat with my friend Shana!!)

Kindergarten Grads

I had the pleasure of working with over 70 kindergarteners recently.  They were so amazingly cute and adorable but I just can’t post them all.  I will however post just this one as it was my favorite not only for the image but for the comments too.  He says to me “What is in here?  Are you sure I passed kindergarten it looks empty to me.”

I can just picture these photos right beside their highschool and university/college grad photos many many years from now!

Time Flies

Where does the time go?  I ask myself that question all of the time.  If you have tried calling or e-mailing me, you no doubt got a message letting you know I was on a holiday.  What started out as a week turned into a couple of months.  Don’t you wish we could all do that from time to time.

So for all of my faithful bloggers who have been wondering what I have been doing.  Here’s the skinny in no particular order

  • more play time with my kidlings … can never have too much of that
  • many many books (latest fav. is Water for Elephants and going to see the movie this week)
  • cleansing, purging … makes me feel like I have more space
  • practicing my other art forms … latest love is silver smithing as I studied with an artist in Red Deer (and yes I will post some images soon)
  • planning to build a house with my hubby … note the word planning in there, it doesn’t mean it is going to happen, anyone know any good carpenters out there
  • and my fav … I got a gym membership … went twice couldn’t sit for a week and haven’t been back, lol:)
  • last but not least, collecting antiques, found this typewriter in Edson and my favorite cup for coffee in the morning is this Wonder Woman Mug I found right here in GP.  Love the inscription inside
Beautiful as Aphrodite
Wise as Athena
Strong as Hercules
and Swifter than Mercury
It sounds like most of the women I know!

Fall Photo Sessions

Fall is definitely here …. and I have been busy booking dates for fall photos.  Some of this years locations include … a railroad, a grassy field (with kites), by the river on the rocks, and garden gates. I have a few more spots open so if you want to reserve a spot please call me at 780-832-8626 or e-mail me at lbrough@telus.net.

Happy falling leaves!

Simone

With the sun setting quickly we opted out of travelling around for a “good” location.  We decided instead … to walk out my back yard.  A normal yard like so many others, we went out the back gate and took advantage of the fence lines and the busy road.  As it turns out Grande Prairians are not used to a gorgeous german girl in her summer attire posing on the side of the road.  After many honks and woohoos … here is what we got.

One last thing … Simone hasn’t been in Canada very long and as you can image she continually picks up new words … so what did I teach her during our short time together???   Luscious, yes that’s right of all the words in the english language that is the one I used that she did not know the meaning of!

Enjoy your sneak!

The Wedding Gala

For any brides out there that haven’t had a chance to come into the studio, you can come by my table at The Wedding Gala at the Grande Prairie Inn tonight.  I was in getting set up and it is looking beautiful, it is sure to be a fun night out with your bridesmaids.

See you there!

Photography Symposium

Every time I run into another photographer they say I saw bla bla bla on your blog.  So I know they stop in to see what is going on at Pure Photography.  And I’m glad they do, because this message is for them.  Not just professional photographers, any amateurs as well.

An active member of the Professional Photographers of Canada, I sit on their board, and whole heartdly support their education initiatives.  Coming up this February is EXPOSURE Photography Symposium.  The skinny … four days and four amazing speakers from Canada and the US.  If that isn’t enough a photo competition and the chance to mingle with other photographers committed to education as much as you are.

If you have any questions, even if you want to go but don’t know anyone.  I’m there, I’d be happy to introduce you to others and be that familiar face.

If you are a member it is $199 (that even includes lunches), non-members $299 (you even get lunches too).  No where else can you see four great speakers for that price.  A great opportunity is an understatement.

Go to idea-market.org or contact PPOC-Alberta at 780-678-0422 for more information.
